Did You Know That Michael Jackson Donated His Shiny Red Jacket To A Terminally Ill Child?
Ever wondered what happened to the shiny red jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the video of his 1983 number 1 hit Beat it?
It has been revealed that the King of pop donated the jacket to the family of a terminally ill child, whose wish in life was to be like the King of Pop, so that the child could be buried wearing it. This was revealed in an interview with Michael’s close friend and choreographer Jeffrey Daniels.
Jeffrey, a member of 1970s and 80s RnB trio, Shalamar, was a guest on the Morning Mojo on WEFM106.3 today and he reminisced about how he was introduced to Michael in the late seventies.
He gave an insight on how, by 1987, he was working with Michael Jackson videos. Jackson had always been a fan of Daniel’s dance style since watching him on Soul Train in the 1970s. He was hired as co-choreographer on the “Bad” and “Smooth Criminal” videos with primary choreographer Travis Payne.
Having worked on a number of projects together, the pair naturally developed a long term friendship that saw Michael repeatedly inviting Daniel, who mostly resides in Japan, to return to the US for more collaborations. Jeffrey was asked if he had a special memory about the late pop legend to which he told the touching story about the young terminally ill child. On hearing of the child’s passing, Michael, according to Jeffrey was so moved that he offered the red leather and sequined jacket he wore in the Beat it short film to be worn by the child for his funeral.
